Drawing a Straight Line

Learning to draw a straight line is a basic principle of drawing, and one a student must master before drawing more complex shapes and forms.

Step One

Holding your writing utensil

Step Two

Start your line

Hold the tip of the writing utensil to the sheet where you want the end of the line to be.

Step Three

Draw your line

Drag the tip of your writing utensil along the sheet, applying steady pressure, making a straight, steady line.

Step Four

Finish the line

When the line is to the ideal length, pick your writing utensil up off of the page.
